Using the Sensory Search

Sensory Search was created for children and teens to become more aware of their natural surroundings, using all of their senses.  But I’ve also found it’s also a useful way to encourage adults to engage in nature, too!

You can customize it by using the species in your areas, or for different ages or abilities.

For example, I give kids juniper berries and cedar branches (smell), encourage them to imitate local bird calls (hear), and have them rub the twigs of fuzzy staghorn sumac (feel).

Remember that anyone can have an allergic reaction, so make sure you have a 100% identification of any plant before touching it.

The Sensory Search is free to use and reproduce. To obtain the PPT file to customize it, please get in touch using the Contact form on the website. If you do use it, I would also love to hear your suggestions for improvement or your experiences with it.
