Tree planting in Hampton Park

In the mostly deciduous woods, white spruces are being planted to replace ash trees that were removed due to the emerald ash borer.

I wrote a few months ago about the some 400 trees that were felled in Hampton Park. I’m happy to report that this week 200 trees are being planted in the park.

Among the species are eastern white pine, white spruce, jack pine, silver maple, common hackberry, new harmony elm, yellow and white birch. I may be forgetting a few.

Maple, elm and jack pine have been planted alongside the Queensway and, since all of these trees grow to good heights, in a few years they will also serve as noise barriers.

Welcome home!
