Imagine being able to store a summer’s worth of heat for use in a cold Prairie winter. That’s exactly what they do in Drake Landing, a 52-home solar thermal development in Okotoks, Alberta, just south of Calgary. The system is simple: solar panels atop separate car garages store energy in an underground water piping system. In winter, the stored energy is returned to the homes as heat. Cheaper than natural gas!
